Advances in Barley Breeding for Improving Nitrogen Use Efficiency
نویسندگان
چکیده
Crop breeding for high nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) or tolerance to low fertilization is thought be an ideal solution reduce the cost, carbon footprint, and other environmental problems caused by excess of fertilizers. As a model plant cereal crops, barley has many advantages, including good adaptability, short growth period, natural stress resistance tolerance. Therefore, research on improving NUE in not only beneficial nitrogen-efficient but will also inform improvement crops. In this review, recent progress understanding barley’s response nutrition, evaluation low-nitrogen tolerance, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping gene cloning associated with NUE, summarized. Furthermore, several biotechnological tools that could used revealing molecular mechanisms are introduced, GWAS, omics, editing. The latest ideas unraveling crops discussed. Thus, review provides better some directions future area.

متن کاملImproving Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Crops for Sustainable Agriculture
In this review, we present the recent developments and future prospects of improving nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in crops using various complementary approaches. These include conventional breeding and molecular genetics, in addition to alternative farming techniques based on no-till continuous cover cropping cultures and/or organic nitrogen (N) nutrition. Whatever the mode of N fertilization...
متن کاملIdentification of Nitrogen Use Efficiency Genes in Barley: Searching for QTLs Controlling Complex Physiological Traits
Over the past half century, the use of nitrogen (N) fertilizers has markedly increased crop yields, but with considerable negative effects on the environment and human health. Consequently, there has been a strong push to reduce the amount of N fertilizer used by maximizing the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) of crops. One approach would be to use classical genetics to improve the NUE of a crop p...
متن کاملAdvances and prospects: biotechnologically improving crop water use efficiency.
Bio-water saving can be defined as the reduction of crop water consumption employing biological measures. This is the focus of efforts to save water in agriculture. Different levels of water-use efficiency (WUE) have been developed. The genetic diversity of WUE has been confirmed in several crops. WUE is the basis of bio-watering and physiological WUE is the key. The degree to develop physiolog...
متن کاملBiotechnology Approaches to Improving Maize Nitrogen Use Efficiency
Nitrogen (N) is an essential and often limiting nutrient to plant growth. Maize grain yields are highly responsive to supplemental N, leading to annual application of an estimated 10 million metric tons of N fertilizer to the maize crop worldwide (FAO 2004). Nearly all cultivated maize in developed countries receives some form of N fertilizer and N use is increasing in developing countries, whe...
